IRIS is a general practice-based domestic violence and abuse (DVA) training, support and referral programme. IRIS ensures that primary care practitioners can respond effectively to domestic violence and abuse and that specialist support is available for patients. The programme provides two specialist members of staff, the Advocate Educator (a DVA worker) and the Clinical Lead (a GP/healthcare practitioner) who work together to train practices about DVA. The AE provides specialist support and advocacy services for patients affected by abuse.
The staff in our practice are trained about domestic abuse and specialist workers are available to support you. Our practice is an ‘IRIS’ practice. You can talk to doctors, nurses and other staff working here if you are being hurt or controlled by your current or ex-partner, are afraid of someone at home or a member of your family. You can also contact nia and ask to speak to the IRIS worker, ‘IRIS Advocate Educator’.
